MayaTech Senior Public Health Scientist Joins Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps
Dr. Deborah Parham Hopson Joins Montgomery County Unit
Silver Spring, MD (May 4, 2021) — Dr. Deborah Parham Hopson, Senior Public Health Scientist with The MayaTech Corporation, is further blending her long-standing profession in public health with her passion for serving the community, as she is a new member of the Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps, Montgomery County Unit.
The Medical Reserve Corps, a division of the Maryland Department of Health, deploys volunteer Maryland Responders who stand ready to respond to community public health needs—from natural disasters to preparing for flu season. All volunteers, who come from a range of professional backgrounds at various stages of their careers, must complete online training prior to deployment. Parham Hopson began her career as a registered nurse and has an extensive background in public health, including as Rear Admiral (Retired) and Assistant Surgeon General for the U.S. Public Health Service and Associate Administrator of the HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau.
"There is a need for clinicians on the Medical Reserve Corps," Parham Hopson said. "Since I am a registered nurse and there is no obligation for multiple deployments, I thought I might lend my skills to help my community"
While Parham Hopson’s primary target area is Montgomery County, deployment opportunities may occur throughout Maryland. Her first assignment is supporting her church during their first COVID-19 vaccination clinic. The Mount Calvary Baptist Church vaccination clinic is open to church members as well as residents of East Rockville, MD.
“MayaTech is extremely proud and gratified when our team members extend their professional expertise to support their communities,” said MayaTech President and Chief Operating Officer Valerie Spencer. “We wholeheartedly support Deborah in this new role as she helps to improve health outcomes in Montgomery County.”
